The Jacobs Ladder cardiovascular machine has been utilized for training personnel within the Soldier Performance Enhancement Program (SPEP) at Fort Bragg, NC. Since 2009, the Jacobs Ladder has been integrated into regular programming of Soldiers training for schools, deployments, or rehabilitation. Initially, ten units were purchased for SPEP’s first performance facility and due to usage, an additional sixteen were purchased for an additional facility. The ladder is utilized as a tool for cardiovascular endurance and leg strength while limiting impact on joints.
The Jacobs Ladder has been utilized within SPEP by programming intervals ranging from thirty second efforts to 1000’ repeat efforts and thirty minute repeats during cardiovascular segments. Additionally, the Jacobs Ladder is utilized in work capacity circuits where a variety of exercises are combined to provide a stimulus training all energy pathways. Additionally, the Jacobs Ladder is regularly used for all populations including Soldiers who could not run due to injury.
To date all twenty-six ladders are still in operation as part of the Soldier Performance Enhancement Program and regular recreation hours of the performance facilities.
